world dining hall has served practically every Peruvian president for the last century (the
presidential palace is across the street). It is known for its skillfully rendered tacu tacu
(pan-fried rice and beans) and butifarra (French bread stuffed with country ham).

several informal bistros in the Gastón Acurio brand, Tanta serves Peruvian dishes, fusion
pastas and sandwiches. The food is good, but desserts are better - try the heavenly
passion-fruit cheesecake mousse.

grimage, this hole-in-the-wall across from the Alianza Lima stadium is renowned for its
leche de tigre (ceviche broth), served not in the typical shot glass but in a soup bowl, and
piled high with fresh seafood. The neighborhood is rough; take a taxi.

century mansion houses this modern, yet intimate, two-room restaurant. There is no à la
carte dining, just a rotating daily list of well-executed Peruvian-Italian specialties that al-
ways includes a vegetarian option. Freshly squeezed juice accompanies this well-tended
feast.

food, fried rice and sizzling meats, Wa Lok is among the best chifas (Chinese restaurants)
in Chinatown. The 16-page menu also offers a good selection of vegetarian options (try
the braised tofu casserole). Portions are enormous; don't overorder.
