LA CATEDRAL DE LIMA
( 427-9647; admission S10; 9am-5pm Mon-Fri, 10am-1pm Sat)
Next to the Archbishop's
palace resides the cathedral, on the same plot of land that Pizarro designated for the city's
first church in 1535. Though it has a baroque facade, the interior was redone in a simple
neo classical style in the 19th century. Even so, baroque pieces remain scattered
throughout, such as the ornate wood
choir
from the early 17th century, a masterpiece of
rococo sculpture. A worthwhile
religious museum
, in the rear, features paintings, vest-
ments and an intricate sacristy.
