The 140-sq-meter main plaza , also called the Plaza Mayor, was the heart of the 16th-
century settlement established by Francisco Pizarro. To the east is the Palacio Arzobispal
Offline map Google map (Archbishop's Palace), boasting some of the most exquisite
Moorish-style balconies in the city.
To the north is the block-long Palacio de Gobierno Offline map Google map , a grandiose
baroque-style building serving as the presidential palace. Out front stands a handsomely
uniformed guard that conducts a changing-of-the-guard ceremony every day at noon. It's a
