Under cold the sensitive varieties of rice have more inferior
spikelets, often more than superior spikelets. As the number of
superior spikelets are more, the variety is better adopted and
called tolerant variety.
Rice grains at the apical primary branches of the panicle
are known as 'superior', while those at the proximal branches
are classifi ed as 'inferior' (Wer et al. 2011). Cold tolerance
evaluation of rice at the booting stage in different places and
the correlationship between spikelet fertility and specific
fertility (spikelet fertility of nine spikelets from the 3rd to
the 5th spikelets of three primary branches at the top of each
panicle) of single plant revealed a signifi cant correlationship
between spikelet fertility and specifi c spikelet fertility with
