under temperate conditions. However, both high biological
yield and high harvest index should be taken into account
together due to their negative correlations and indirect effects
on each other (Surek and Beser 2003).
Gevrek (2012) noted the Aegean region with a typical
Mediterranean climate on the West Coast of Anatolia,
shows distinctive climate patterns different from any other
area of the country. In this region, the lowermost and
uppermost limits of temperature are 15ºC-35ºC respectively
from beginning of April to the fi rst week of september. Average
rainfall is 500-600 mm. Hot and dry days of summer season is
for 140 days from sowing to fl owering time for rice cultivation
in the region.

A varietal trial indicated that Demir is the highest yielding
variety.
The analysis of yield and yield components is given here under
(Table 40).
Experiment with elevated CO 2 and low temperature in
rice at anthesis suggests that panicles are already formed, the
effect is on the grain setting and grain fi lling process. Night
temperature has a strong effect on grain set by increasing
spikelet sterility, whereas elevated CO 2 has virtually no effect.
Low temperature (22ºC) has increased proportion of fertile
spikelets. Grain weights have no signifi cant difference along
with brown rice yield (Cheng et al. 2009) (Table 41).
