In-Depth Information
Just having the buttons will encourage some people to share the post, but I like to specific-
ally ask the reader to share the post as well.
3. Leave a comment.
Having lots of comments on your posts makes them stronger, so you want to encourage
people to comment. This is because with comments more content is being added to your
post (as well as diverse opinions), and it acts as a kind of social proof too (if someone sees
that your articles generate lots of comments, they'll be more inclined to comment and join
the discussion / read more of your blog / follow you on a social network, etc.).
Also, if an active discussion gets started in the comments section, people will keep coming
back to your post to follow the discussion.
To assist with getting people to come back to the post to continue the discussion, I like to
use the plugin Subscribe to Comments by Mark Jaquith. What this plugin does is it adds a
check box under the comment area that allows the person to subscribe to that post. If the
person checks off that box, then that person will receive an email notification every time
someone leaves another comment on that blog post.
