A Few More Thoughts Related to Your Blog Posts
How much writing should I do? How long should each article be?
A lot of people ask me these questions wanting a specific answer, but the truth is, it is en-
tirely up to you. There are successful blogs that update several times a day with short and
interesting posts that generate lots of interest, just like that are successful blogs that publish
nothing but lengthy case studies less than once a month (that also generate lots of interest).
I promise that once you start your blog and start writing, you will get a good idea for how
much you want to publish depending on your goals with your blog. I know this answer will
sound like it's meaningless, but I promise it isn't: write as many blog posts as you decide
is appropriate, and make the blog posts as long as they need to be to sufficiently cover the
topic of your post.
In my personal blogs that I've run, I've aimed at writing at least once per week and my blog
posts were never less than 500 words long (and some were extensive with several thousands
of words and lots of pictures, YouTube videos, etc.). It just depends on the topic. Like I said,
there is no right or wrong answer.
A few more tips:
Good “how-to” articles are fantastic. They are incredibly useful and are searched for all the
time in Google (remember that most searchers on the Internet are looking for information).
A good “how-to” article will be commented on and shared for life - it's the type of article
that continues to pay year after year.
Case studies are excellent “link bait” (link bait is the kind of article that generates lots of
interest, and as a result is linked to from a lot of websites, bringing your website lots of
direct traffic as well as SEO benefits). A long and detailed case study of an experiment per-
formed in the real world will always be popular because people love real life examples of
experiments and seeing the results. Imagine an article that was titled “My Exact Diet and
Exercise Regime that Resulted in Me Losing 15 lbs. of Fat in One Month, with Pictures and
Thoughts.” A detailed case study post like that would generate a ton of links, comments, and
shares - guaranteed.
