In-Depth Information
So now we have the global monthly search volume of “cement” (60,500 searches in
Google), as well as the global monthly searches for a bunch of other related keywords, all
listed in the screenshot.
The next step is to download that entire database of keywords as a “CSV for Excel” by
pressing the “download” button (the button can be seen on the top left area of the screen-
shot above).
Now go ahead and do that for all the topics you want your blog to be about or might want
to write about. For the example above, say you want to continue with a similar theme to
cement: you could make your next Google Keyword Search for “construction” and then
download that CSV for Excel. Do this for all the topics you are interested in writing about
for your blog, combine all those “CSV for Excel” downloaded keywords into one big Excel
sheet, and then list the keywords in order of biggest monthly searches to smallest monthly
searches.
This Excel sheet will serve as the place you go to when you are going to write a new post on
your blog. Obviously, you generally want to write about the topics with the most monthly
searches, but it isn't a bad idea to vary it up and write about interesting keywords that have
lower monthly searches as well.
Even though many blog post topics will be chosen strategically based on keyword research,
don't forget that some will also be “free written” (this will be explained more in detail
later).
This strategy will give you years of blog post topics to write about, and you will have
a much more clear idea of what people are most interested in within your topic. Writing
about topics that interest the most people will help popularize your blog amongst the read-
ers that will comment and share your content, and search engines will also send you more
traffic, since your blog posts will be Search Engine Optimized (SEO'd) specifically to ap-
pear higher in the rankings for those keywords.
