Re-bar hammered into the ground
To start with this system, buy ten pieces of 10'-long ¾”
schedule 40 PVC pipe. The first six pieces are cut into two
pieces, one six feet long and the other four feet long. This
gives you twelve uprights total: six that are six feet tall and
six that are four feet tall. The remaining four pieces of pipe
are each cut into two pieces 46-¾” long and one piece 22-¾”
long. This will give you eight long cross-pieces and four short
cross-pieces. You will also need a collection of fittings. You
will need elbows for connecting the cross-pieces to the
uprights at the ends of the bed, tees for connecting
cross-pieces together and allowing for additional supports and
side outlet elbows for running trellises around corners. You
can get started with six of each. You can expand this system
as needed by getting more PVC pipe and fittings, and cutting
the PVC to the specified lengths.
