The high-energy sport of coasteering originated in Wales: it involves a combination of
wild swimming, climbing, canyoning, jumping and diving to negotiate a rocky coastline.
Pembrokeshire, the Gower and Anglesey are particular hotspots.
Opportunities for white-water rafting are limited. One of the few Welsh rivers with big
and fairly predictable summertime white water (grade three to four) is the dam-released
Tryweryn near Bala. Moderate rapids (grade two to four) are found on the River Usk and
between Corwen and Llangollen on the River Dee.
