LONG-DISTANCE CYCLE RIDES
Two of Wales' most popular long- distance rides come under the auspices of the National Cycle Network (NCN;
Click here ) :
Lôn Las Cymru (Greenways of Wales/Welsh National Route; NCN routes 8 & 42) This 254-mile route runs
from Holyhead, through to Hay-on-Wye, then on to Cardiff via Brecon or Chepstow via Abergavenny. Encom-
passing three mountain ranges - Snowdonia, the Brecon Beacons and the Cambrian Mountains - there's a fair
amount of uphill, low-gear huffing and puffing to endure along the way. But each peak promises fantastic views
and plenty of downhill, free-wheeling delights.
Lôn Geltaidd (Celtic Trail; NCN routes 4 & 47) A 337-mile route snaking from Fishguard through the West
Wales hills, the Pembrokeshire Coast, the former coalfields of South Wales and ending at Chepstow Castle. The
glorious, ever-changing landscape provides a superb backdrop.
End points are linked with the rail network so you can make your way back to the start by train.
