Theatre & Dance
Theatre is thriving in Wales. The leading English-language professional company is the Cl-
wyd Theatr Cymru, based in northeast Wales and attracting top-name performers such as
Sir Anthony Hopkins. Cardiff's acclaimed theatrical organisation, Sherman Cymru, pro-
duces a wide range of productions each year, including theatre for young people and in-
ventive adaptations of classic dramas. The highly acclaimed Music Theatre Wales, a pion-
eering force in contemporary opera, has a growing international reputation. Dance lovers
should look out for Earthfall, Wales' leading dance-theatre company and one of the most
sought-after companies across Europe.
The biggest recent theatre event in Wales was a 72-hour live production by the National
Theatre Wales. The Passion in Port Talbot was a hard-hitting secular retelling of the Pas-
sion of Christ, which included a 'last supper' of beer and sandwiches at a local social club.
