OFF THE BEATEN TRACK
THE KINMEL ARMS
If you've ever had the urge to hole yourself up in a comfortable pub in a small village, this one's for you. Located
in the countryside near Abergele, 15 miles east of Conwy, the village of St George is a sleepy little place consist-
ing of little more than a scattering of houses, a parish church, a privately owned Victorian manor house, a primary
school and, of course, a pub. However, the Kinmel Arms ( 01745-832207; www.thekinmelarms.co.uk ; St
George; ste from £135-175; Tue-Sat; ) isn't your average country pub - it's a top-notch enclave of
fine food, real ales and boutique accommodation. The four Alpine-style units are totally self-contained, with
high-end features, beautiful bathrooms and lots of rustic touches. Cooked breakfasts aren't offered, but room
fridges are stocked with brekkie fare the night before - which is great if you fancy a lie-in.
To get here from Conwy, take the A55 to junction 24 and exit on to the A547 (Rhuddlan Rd). After 1.6 miles
look for the signpost pointing to St George on your right.
