WORTH A TRIP
COED Y BRENIN FOREST PARK
Covering 14 sq miles, this woodland park (8 miles north of Dolgellau off the A470) is the premier location for
mountain biking in Wales. It's laced with 70 miles of purpose-built cycle trails, divided into eight graded routes to
suit beginners or guns, and impressively presented by way of old-fashioned waterproof trail cards or download-
able geocaches and MP3 audio files. Wildlife includes fallow deer; they're hard to spot but you're most likely to
see them early in the morning.
The park's impressive environmentally friendly visitor centre ( 01341-440747;
www.naturalresourceswales.gov.uk ; car park per hr/day £1/4; 9.30am-4.30pm) has a cafe, toilets, showers
and a children's play area, while downstairs you can hire bikes from Beics Brenin (
01341-440728;
www.beicsbrenin.co.uk ; per day £25-45) .
If you prefer to monkey about in the treetops, the park also contains the Go Ape (
0845 094 2634;
www.goape.co.uk ; adult/child from £30/24;
weekends & school holidays Easter-Oct) high-wires course;
book ahead.
Accommodation is available 3.5 miles north of the park at the Transfynydd Holiday Village (

of around 350 log cabins, with its own pub, shop and laundrette.
