In-Depth Information
( 01824-702664; www.ruthincastle.co.uk ; Castle St; r/ste from £115/195; ) For a good knight's
sleep (sorry, we couldn't resist), try this large rambling hotel built on the ruins of a castle
founded by Edward I. Peacocks roam the grounds and there's a spa centre in the old moat.
It's a fascinating place to stay, even if the attempts at grandeur sometimes miss the mark
(we question the romantic efficacy of the photos of Charles in the over-the-top Prince of
Wales bridal suite).

ner).

6.30-9pm Tue, noon-2pm & 6.30-9pm Wed-Sat) The low ceilings and exposed beams of this 16th-
century house near the square make a memorable setting for sophisticated country cook-
ing. Rustic classics such as beef bourguignon sit alongside more contemporary creations,
but they all hit the mark.
Myddelton Grill

grilling, this is the place to come. Various meats, fish, vegies and kebabs are sizzled up
and served with a choice of tasty sides. It occupies a wonderful Tudor building known as
'the Seven Eyes' due its multiple dormer windows.
