PUFFIN SHUTTLE
Between May and September walkers can make use of the Puffin Shuttle (315/400; fares less than £5), which
crawls around the coast three times daily in each direction from Haverfordwest to St Davids. Stops include Mil-
ford Haven, Dale, Marloes, Martin's Haven, Little Haven, Broad Haven, Newgale Sands and Solva. For the rest
of the year the route is split, with 315 heading from Haverfordwest to Marloes (no Sunday service) and 400 cov-
ering all stops from St Davids to Haverfordwest and on to Fishguard (Monday, Thursday and Saturday only).

Dale & Around
The fishing village of Dale sits on a rugged and remote peninsula, forming the northern
head of the Milford Haven waterway. As you round beautiful
St Ann's Head
, all vestiges of
heavy industry and, indeed, human habitation disappear from view. Little
Westdale Bay
fol-
lows and then the impressive sweep of
Marloes Sands
, with views over
Gateholm Island
- a
major Iron Age Celtic settlement where the remains of 130 hut circles have been found.
Around Wooltack Point is
Martin's Haven
, the tiny harbour that is the jumping-off point
for boat trips to Skomer and Skokholm Islands. An unstaffed information room here has
displays on the marine environment, including touch-screen displays of wildlife activity
around Skomer. Look for a 7th-century
Celtic cross
set into the wall outside.
Further around the headland the cliffs change from red to black and
Musselwick Sands
comes into view: a large, sandy beach with plenty of craggy inlets to explore.

The rugged coast around Dale is a great place to try
out some water sports. West Wales Water-sports offers instruction for adults and children.
Windsurfing and sailing lessons cost £65/85 per half-/full day for adults and £55/75 for
children. Surfing and kayaking lessons cost £35/55 per half -/full day. It also rents wet-
suits per half-/full day (£12/24), kayaks (£20/30) and windsurfing rigs (from £35/50).
