TOP OF CHAPTER
Oxwich Bay
Oxwich Bay is a windy, 2.5-mile-long curve of sand backed by dunes. Road access and a
large car park (£2) make it popular with families and water-sports enthusiasts (there's no
lifeguard, but otherwise it's good for beginner surfers). Behind the beach lies Oxwich Nature
Reserve , an area of salt and freshwater marshes, oak and ash woodlands and dunes; it is
home to a variety of bird life and dune plants.
Set on a hillside above the beach, the stately grey ruin of Oxwich Castle ( 01792-390359;
www.cadw.wales.gov.uk ; Oxwich Castle Farm; adult/child £2.60/2.25; 10am-5pm Apr-Sep) , run by Cadw
(the Welsh historic monuments agency), is less a castle and more a sumptuous 16th-cen-
tury, mock-military Tudor mansion.
