Cwtch Cafe
OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP
( 01873-855466; 58 Cross St; 8.30am-5pm Mon-Sat) For coffee and a homemade cake in the
heart of town, the stylish little Cwtch (Welsh for 'hug') Cafe is a nice option. It also
provides heartier cooked meals, such as cheese and potato pie and lasagne.

Angel Hotel

( 01873-857121; www.angelhotelabergavenny.com ; 15 Cross St; mains £8-22) The Angel offers a choice
of eating options, from an informal meal in front of the log fire in the bar to the sophistic-
ated restaurant with its crisp, white linen and attentive service, to a romantic dinner in the
candle-lit courtyard. The menu makes the most of local produce - the roast lamb is tender
and succulent - and there's an excellent wine list.

( 01873-855074; 29 Nevill St; mains £10-17; ) The King's Arms is a 16th-century tavern,
where you can down a pint accompanied by lamb's liver and bubble 'n' squeak. It has un-
dergone a rather drastic makeover - an oil painting of Martin Scorsese is an incongruous
touch - but the restaurant menu (loin of Gloucester old spot pork, beer-battered cod) takes
things to the next level of sophistication, while still keeping a rustic edge.
Drinking & Entertainment
Hen & Chickens
OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP
( 01873-853613; 7 Flannel St; ) A traditional real-ale pub tucked down a pedestrian alley,
the Hen & Chickens hosts live jazz sessions on Sunday afternoons (outside when it's
sunny) and occasional folk music sessions. The pub grub's good too.
PUB
Borough Theatre
OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP
( 01873-850805; www.boroughtheatreabergavenny.co.uk ; Cross St) It's strange now to think that the
Beatles played this small theatre in Abergavenny Town Hall in 1963. It stages a varied
program of drama, opera, dance, comedy and music.
