6 Atlantic Wharf
Wharf
( 029-2040 5092; www.thewharfcardiff.co.uk ; 121 Schooner Way; noon-11pm; ) The expanse of
old brick warehouses and brand-new apartments that fill the former docklands between
the city and Cardiff Bay still feels a little desolate. The exception is this large, family-
friendly pub inhabiting a striking Victorian industrial building on East Bute Dock. On
sunny days the tables by the water are some of Cardiff's prime drinking spots. Entertain-
ment includes regular quiz nights.

( www.jolyons.co.uk ; 5 Bute Cres; 5.30-11pm Mon-Thu, to 1am Fri & Sat) A ' cwtch' is either a warm,
safe place or a cuddle. This little bar, below Jolyons Hotel, is certainly the former and it
imparts a cosy feeling that's almost as good as the latter. Sink into a sofa and slip into
Cwtch's warm embrace. In summer, head through the Tardis door to the beer garden.
