Professionally run by a young brother-and-sister team and a pair of fluffy cats, the River
House has a well-equipped kitchen, small garden and cosy TV lounge. The private rooms
are basically small dorm rooms and share the same bathrooms. A free breakfast of cereal
and toast is provided.

Premier Inn Cardiff City Centre

( 0871 527 8196; www.premierinn.com ; 10 Churchill Way; r from £45; ) The Cardiff branch of Bri-
tain's biggest chain has 200 beds in a squat mirror-clad former office tower, right in the
city centre. It's not flash, but it's comfortable, clean and terrific value - although you'll
need to book early and pay in advance to secure the cheapest rates. Request a higher floor
for a quieter room.
NosDa

( 029-2037 8866; www.nosda.co.uk ; 53-59 Despenser St; dm/s/tw from £21/32/46; ) Directly
across the river from the Millennium Stadium, NosDa is starting to look a little scuffed -
which is a shame, as it was impressively schmick when it first opened. Still, for private
budget rooms in a fab location, it's hard to beat. The cheaper twins share bathrooms.

Park Plaza

( 029-2011 1111; www.parkplazacardiff.com ; Greyfriars Rd; r from £92; ) Luxurious without being
remotely stuffy, the Plaza has all the five-star facilities you'd expect from an upmarket
business-orientated hotel. The snug reception sets the scene, with a gas fire blazing along
one wall and comfy wingback chairs. The rear rooms have leafy views over the Civic
Centre.
