To estimate the costs of heat generation based on fossil fuel energy, in the fol-
lowing investment and operation costs as well as the specific heat provision costs
are outlined for the reference systems defined in Table 1.6.
Investments and operation costs. To determine the investment costs the expenses
for the boiler, the burner, the domestic hot water storage, civil engineering struc-
tures (e.g. furnace room design, chimney, oil tank, connection to the natural gas
grid) as well as assembly and installation costs (Table 1.7) have been considered
for the systems indicated in Table 1.6.

The operation costs of the assessed heat provision plants include, among other
costs, expenses for maintenance and repair, as well as for electric power required
for plant operation (including, among others, burner, fan, and self-ignition sys-
tem). In addition, fuel costs have to be taken into consideration. They are shown
separately from the other operation costs within Table 1.7.
