in probability by the current - very far-reaching - regulations.
End of operation. The actual hydroelectric power components are mainly built
from metallic material with recognised and generally environmentally friendly
disposal methods. The demolishing of the structural components on site (e.g.
dams, barrages) is more problematic. However, it has to be assumed that the plant
location can still be used for the power industry after the technical lifetime of a
hydroelectric power station has been exceeded. Considering this, such issues have
not been significant so far. For the demolishing of dams, environmentally friendly
recycling options could be developed. Thus an environmentally friendly disposal
of hydroelectric power stations appears to be possible.
