segmenting vegetation and soil because these regions were easily delineated using an
NIR image. In addition to crop status parameters, crop height is an important mea-
sure of crop health. An estimator of crop height was developed based on a defined
leaf area index (LAI). The prior knowledge that leaf area had a strong correlation to
crop height during the growing period aided the development of the estimator. LAI
was defined as the ratio of leaf area to the whole image area as shown in Figure 2.25.
Thus, an intelligent MSIS vision sensor system was developed for detecting both
nitrogen stress and crop height information. In this manner, crop height can also
imply crop status as another factor to be used in precision field management.
2.8.3 A CCURACY OF I NTELLIGENT R OBOT V ISION
Figure 2.26 shows the accuracy of the MSIS estimating chlorophyll content in a leaf.
The value of (G response/NIR response) was adopted to estimate the chlorophyll
