In Spain, Palau and Torregrosa (1997) tried to use a green bean harvester to har-
vest paprika peppers, but this approach was not successful. They developed a spe-
cialized mechanical harvester adapted to Spanish growing conditions that pulled the
peppers as well as some leaves off the plant as the machine moved forward along the
row. The forward motion of the machine coupled with a rotating brush cylinder sepa-
rated the peppers. As peppers were moved by the conveyor to the holding bin, an air
blast was applied to separate leaves and debris from the peppers (Figure 7.11). This
