in their accommodation rates, but confirm this when booking. Other costs include guide
fees of US$10/15/20 per group per day/overnight/walking safari, plus vehicle fees (US$40/
Tsh10,000 per foreign-/Tanzanian-registered car).
FEES
In theory, entry fees and all other park fees must be paid electronically with a Visa card
(MasterCard is also accepted at some northern parks) using your PIN. However, if the park
credit card machine is broken (a frequent occurrence) or not yet installed (as is the case
in most parks outside the northern circuit), visitors are required to pay in US dollars cash.
Some parks also accept Tanzanian shillings. It's also possible to pay using a 'smart card'
available for purchase from CRDB and Exim banks.
Until Tanapa gets the kinks in their system sorted out, our advice is to bring both a Visa
card and sufficient US dollars cash to cover payment of park entry fees, guide fees and
Tanapa-run park accommodation.
Wildlife Reserves
Wildlife reserves are administered by the Wildlife Division of the Ministry of Natural
Resources & Tourism ( www.mnrt.go.tz ; cnr Nyerere & Changombe Rds, Dar es Salaam).
Fees currently must be paid in US dollars cash, although a credit card system (Visa card)
is planned imminently for Selous Game Reserve. Selous is the only reserve with tourist in-
frastructure. Large areas of most others have been leased as hunting concessions, as has the
southern Selous.
