New Mjaka Enterprises Guest House GUESTHOUSE $

20,000; ) This otherwise undistinguished place is the best of Kilwa's clutch of local
guesthouses, with a few basic rooms in the main building sharing facilities and somewhat
better bandas next door. Some bandas have two rooms sharing a bathroom and common
area while others are standard doubles. Across the street are a few smarter rooms with air-
con. All have fan.
EATING
For inexpensive fish/chicken and chips, try Ideal Tea Room (Main Rd; meals from
Tsh3000) at New Mjaka Enterprises Guest House; Mopei Fast Food (meals from Tsh2000)
, just down from the Dar es Salaam bus booking offices; or, the lively night market ,
between the main street and the market, with inexpensive fish and street snacks from dusk
onwards.
INFORMATION
The National Microfinance Bank (Main Rd) changes cash. There's no ATM. There's an
on again-off again internet connection at the market.
GETTING THERE & AWAY
Air
Coastal Aviation flies daily between Dar es Salaam and Kilwa (US$260 one-way) and
between Kilwa and Mafia (US$200, minimum two passengers). Book through their Dar es
Salaam office ( Click here ), or in Kilwa through Sudi Travel Agency ( 023-201 3004,
0784-824144; Main Rd) , north of the petrol station and just north of the transport stand.
The airstrip is about 2km north of town along the main road.
Boat
Dhows are best arranged in Kilwa Kivinje. Boats to Kilwa Kisiwani, Songo Mnara and
Pande leave from the jetty at the southern end of town.
