Ndoto Kidogo BUNGALOW $$

lage has simple stone-and-thatch bungalows, plus a no-frills backpacker block with twin-
bedded rooms sharing toilet and with its own eating area, plus a campsite. It's on the river,
clean and good value.
Sable Mountain Lodge LODGE $$$

all-inclusive US$445/590; ) Friendly and relaxed, Sable Mountain is about halfway
between Matambwe Gate and Kisaki village on the northwestern boundary of the re-
serve. There are cosy stone cottages, tented bandas, a snug for stargazing, walking safaris
and wildlife drives and night drives outside the reserve. Free pick-ups and drop-offs are
provided to Kisaki train station.
Selous River Camp BUNGALOW $$

room US$90/130, s/d in mud hut US$125/160; ) This simple, no-frills but cosy place
on the river between Mloka village and Mtemere Gate is one of the better of the clutch
of 'budget' lodges outside the eastern entrance to Selous, with camping, and accommoda-
tion in either 'mud hut' bungalows with bathroom or no-frills standing tents with cots and
shared facilities. Meals, boat safaris and wildlife drives can be arranged.
There are two ordinary campsites , one at Beho Beho bridge, about 12km southeast of
Matambwe, and one at Lake Tagalala, roughly midway between Mtemere and Matambwe.
Each has a pit toilet, but otherwise there are no facilities. For both, you will need to be self-
sufficient, including with drinking water. Special campsites can be arranged in the area
between Mtemere Gate and Lake Manze (northeast of Lake Tagalala). All campsites can
be arranged on arrival at the gates.
INFORMATION
The best times to visit are during the cooler, drier season from June to October, and into
November, December and January. Much of the reserve is inaccessible between March and
