GETTING THERE & AWAY
Air
The airport is a five-minute walk from the city centre. Precision Air flies four times
weekly from Dar es Salaam (Tsh188,000) via Mwanza. Book tickets at Global Travel (
0683-264294; Gandhi St) across from Barclays Bank.
Boat
The passenger/vehicle ferry service that has been suspended for many years could restart.
Bus
The bus terminal is 6km out of town at Bweri, though booking offices remain in the town
centre. Dalla-dallas (pick-up trucks or minibuses; Tsh300; 20 minutes) go there frequently
to/from the city centre and a taxi costs Tsh5000. Frequent buses connect Musoma and
Mwanza (Tsh6000, three to four hours) via Bunda (Tsh3000, one hour) departing between
5.30am and 4pm. Mohammed Trans has good service and its morning bus departs from its
ticket office east of CRDB bank. Between Coast Line, Kimotco and Manko there's a direct
bus to Arusha (Tsh28,000, 11 to 12 hours) at 6am daily, passing through Serengeti National
Park (using Ikoma Gate) and Ngorongoro Conservation Area, but you'll need to pay $100
in total park fees to ride this route.

Mwanza
POP 378,000
Tanzania's second-largest city, and the lake region's economic heart, is set on Lake Victor-
ia's shore and is surrounded by hills strewn with enormous boulders. In addition to being
notable for its strong Indian influences, Mwanza is a major industrial centre and busy port.
