GETTING THERE & AWAY
Air
Coastal Aviation flies daily between Dodoma and Arusha (US$250). The airport is just
north of the city centre; Tsh3000 in a taxi.
Bus
The best buses to Dar es Saalam (six to seven hours) are the 'full luxury' (meaning
four-across seating and toilets; standard 'luxury' has no toilets) buses offered by Shabiby
(Tsh20,000), which has its own terminal across the roundabout from the main bus terminal.
Other buses (Tsh10,000 to Tsh17,000) depart Dodoma frequently from 6am to 1pm, plus
buses that started their trip to Dar in Mwanza pass through in the afternoon and you can
usually get a seat.
Buses to Mwanza (Tsh30,000, eight hours) via Singida (Tsh13,000, three hours) leave
Dodoma between 6am and 7.30am, and Mwanza-bound buses from Dar es Salaam pass
through around midday. There are also three coastals to Singida leaving Dodoma at 8am,
10am and noon.
Buses to Kondoa (Tsh7000, three hours) depart 6am, 6.30am, 10.30am and noon: they use
a section of the old Great North Rd connecting Cape Town and Cairo. If you take the morn-
ing bus you may be able to get a connection to Babati the same day.
Buses direct to Arusha (Tsh28,000 to Tsh34,000, 11 to 12 hours) and Moshi (Tsh25,000 to
Tsh32,000, 10 to 11 hours) all leave at 6am and take the route through Chalinze rather than
the direct route to the north. Shabiby is the best.
