EATING & DRINKING
Milan's INDIAN $
(Mankinga St; meals Tsh3500-5000; lunch & dinner; ) This colourful all-vegetarian
spot is our favourite Indian restaurant, and not only because the prices are so low: it's really
delicious. There are also pizzas and a few Chinese choices.
Union Café CAFE $$
(Arusha Rd; meals Tsh4000-14,000; breakfast, lunch & dinner; ) A stylish and his-
toric shop with good pizzas, pastas and sandwiches, but this is one coffee shop that really
is foremost about the coffee. It's run by the Kilimanjaro Native Cooperative Union repres-

Locals also like it because it has a generator, which ensures wi-fi during power cuts.
Salzburger Café TANZANIAN, EUROPEAN $
(Kenyatta St; meals Tsh6800-9500; breakfast, lunch & dinner) The Alps meet Africa
at this classic place, which comes complete with waiters sporting faux-leopard skin vests,
Austrian kneipe (bar) decor and a selection of good, cheap dishes (try Chicken Mambo
Yote), all with amusing menu descriptions.
IndoItaliano Restaurant INDIAN, ITALIAN $$
(New St; meals Tsh7000-14,000; lunch & dinner; ) This very popular travellers des-
tination has two big menus, Indian and Italian, and surprisingly both are quite good. The
pavement terrace is a nice place to linger.
The Coffee Shop CAFE $
(Kilima St; meals Tsh2200-5000; breakfast, lunch & dinner Mon-Fri, breakfast & lunch
Sat) A laid-back vibe, garden seating, good coffee, small book exchange and an assortment
of home-made breads, cakes, yoghurt, breakfast and low-priced light meals. Proceeds go to
a church project.
Sikh Club INDIAN $
(Ghala St; meals Tsh3500-Tsh7500; lunch & dinner Tue-Sun; ) There are fancier
choices outside the city centre (such as the well-known El Rancho in Shanty Town), but
ask most Indians in town where they eat out and the majority will direct you to this plastic-
