Babu's Camp TENTED CAMP $$$
( 027-254 8840, 0784-402266; www.babuscamp.com ; per person full board from
US$250) This classic safari-style camp is the only permanent camp in the park. Its five
tents are set amid baobabs and thorn acacias in the northern part of the reserve looking
towards the Gulela Hills. The cuisine is tasty, staff are attentive and the surrounding land-
scapes are wide and lovely. Wildlife drives and walks - including to a nearby rock pool and
stream, or further afield - can be arranged, as can night drives.
INFORMATION
Park admission costs US$20/5 per adult/child per day. At the time of research, this was
payable in cash only, although a credit card system similar to that in the other parks is
planned to be introduced soon; bring a Visa card and your PIN just in case. For camping
fees, Click here . The main entrance to the reserve is Zange Gate (open 7am to 6pm), 5km
east of Same, which is also the location of park headquarters ( 027-275 8249) , and
the place to arrange guides for walks in the park (US$20 guide fee, plus US$20 walking
tour fee). There's another entry/exit point at Njiro Gate to the southeast, open by advance
arrangement only. Much of Mkomazi's secondary road network is impassable during the
rains; main routes are all-weather.
GETTING THERE & AWAY
Dalla-dallas between Same and Mbaga can drop you at Zange Gate, from where you can
arrange guides and begin a walking safari. Babu's Camp provides transfers for its guests.
