SLEEPING & EATING
Pemba Crown Hotel HOTEL $
( 0777-493667; www.pembacrown.com ; Bomani Ave; s/d US$25/35; ) Decent albeit
soul-less rooms, all with fan and air-con, in a low high-rise smack in the centre of town.
It's Wete's best value. There's no restaurant.
Sharook Guest House GUESTHOUSE $
( 0777-431012; www.pembaliving.com ; s/d US$25/ 30) Prices have risen at this small
guesthouse even as maintenance has lagged, but it remains the homiest and most popular
in town with travellers. The friendly English-speaking owners know much about travel on
the island, though their advice is usually weighted towards what makes them money: ie car,
motorcycle and bicycle rental. There's no restaurant. Room rates are sometimes negotiable.
Hill View Inn GUESTHOUSE $
( 0776-338366; s/d US$20/30, r without bathroom US$15) This small, friendly estab-
lishment up behind the ugly grey apartments has no-frills, clean rooms; the ones upstairs
are better since they catch some breezes. There's satellite TV in the lounge and meals and
hot water are available on request.
Annex of Sharook GUESTHOUSE $
( 0777-431012; www.pembaliving.com ; dm US$20, s/d US$30/50; ) Bigger and bet-
ter than the original, but less cosy. There's a nice narrow view of the bay from the rooftop
restaurant.
