fice. Both places are best visited in combination with a spice tour, which can be arranged
through all travel agencies.
Umoja Children's Park AMUSEMENT PARK
Kiwanja cha Kufurahishia Watoto ('Fairgrounds for Making Children Happy') is a relic
from Pemba's socialist days. Surprisingly, most of the remaining rides still work. It's now
opened only twice a year: around Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Kebir.

Pemba Misali Sunset Beach RESORT $

US$120-160; ) Out amid the mangroves just before Wesha, 7km from Chake
Chake, this new resort is quite reasonably priced for Pemba. Its most expensive bungalows
sit right on the white sand beach and diving, snorkelling and canoe trips through the man-
groves are available. There is a discount for booking online.
Le Tavern HOTEL $

rooms in town aren't much worse than those at Pemba Island Hotel, although they don't
have hot water. Overall, it's Chake Chake's best value.

Clean rooms with cable TV and hot water, plus a rooftop restaurant. Nothing special, noth-
ing wrong.
Pemba Clove Inn HOTEL $$

in some of the rooms aren't enough to give this place any ambience, but the rooms have
the expected facilities for the price.
Tunda Lodge GUESTHOUSE $
( 0778-458461; r US$15, without bathroom US$10) If money is more important than
convenience, this basic place in the Machomane suburb (very near Army Mess, one of
