In-Depth Information
The upstairs rooms are brighter and better ventilated. Breakfast is served, but otherwise
there is no food.
Shangani Hotel HOTEL $$
( 024-223 3688, 024-223 6363, 0777-411703; www.shanganihotel.com ; Kenyatta Rd;
s/d/tr US$55/75/85; ) This unpretentious place opposite Shangani post office has bland
but reasonably comfortable rooms, most with TV, fridge and fan. There's no food at the
moment except breakfast.
Africa House Hotel HOTEL $$
( 0774-432340; www.africahousehotel.com ; s/d/tw from US$120/150/150; )
Formerly the English Club, the Africa House is full of character, with a mix of rooms (the
sea-view ones are nicer, although all are a bit faded), a sheesha lounge, a popular sunset
bar, erratic service and a mediocre restaurant upstairs.
Zanzibar Serena Inn HOTEL $$$
( 024-223 2306, 024-223 3587; www.serenahotels.com ; s/d from US$325/475;
) The Zanzibar Serena, in the refurbished Extelecoms House, is easily Zanzibar Town's
most upmarket accommodation option, with a beautiful setting on the water, plush rooms
with all the amenities, and a business centre. However, we have received some complaints
about lackadaisical staff.
Pearl of Zanzibar HOTEL $$
( 024-223 1435; s/d/tr US$65/85/105; ) Diagonally opposite the Chavda Hotel,
this place has decent, clean rooms (some with balcony) around an inner courtyard, although
it doesn't quite live up to its potential. Breakfast is served, but otherwise, there's no food.
Karibu Zanzibar Hotel HOTEL $$
( www.karibuzanzibarhotel.co.tz ; s/d from US$50/60; ) This is a rather soul-less place
with small, spartan rooms with fan, air-con and TV. Some rooms come with a small double
bed while others are provided with a larger bed. The hotel is located in an alley opposite
Al- Johari hotel, and a few blocks in from Zanzibar Serena Inn.
