Mikadi Beach BACKPACKERS $

Tsh40,000/60,000; ) This chilled place has a backpacker-friendly vibe, a convivial
bar and meals. Accommodation is in no-frills twin-bedded beach bandas, and there are
warm (salt-water) showers.
Sunrise Beach Resort HOTEL $$

straightforward, closely spaced rooms just in from the sand plus air-con 'executive' rooms
in two-storey brick rondavels to the back of the property. There's also a row of canvas tents
on the sand, all with a mattress, tiny windows and shared hot-water showers. There's a per
person day use fee on weekends of Tsh5000 (Tsh3000 can be redeemed at the restaurant).
It's just north of Kipepeo.
Kipepeo Beach & Village BUNGALOWS $$

s/d/tr cottage US$60/80/110) Kipepeo, located 8km south of the ferry dock, has raised cot-
tages with balconies situated about 300m back from the beach. Closer to the water, but en-
closed behind a fence and a bit of a walk to the nearest bathroom, are makeshift thatched
bungalows without windows, and a camping area. Breakfast is included only in cottage
rates. There's a large beachside restaurant-bar. It's very popular, especially on weekends,
when there's a Tsh3000 fee for day use of the beach and facilities (note that the price can
be redeemed at the bar or restaurant).
South Beach Resort HOTEL $$

large, three-storey edifice with twin- and double-bedded rooms, all with a small porch, and
with fan and window-screens, but no nets. Rooms overlook a large stone plaza and pool
area, with the beach in front. It's just south of Kipepeo.
GETTING THERE & AWAY
Making a good excursion in itself (it's a slice of local life, but go before the planned bridge
is built), the Kigamboni (Magogoni) ferry (per person/vehicle Tsh100/1000, five minutes)
