and locally run community centre providing education, talent development and
vocational training for Kigamboni-area youth. For visitors, it offers reasonably
priced walking and cycling tours, 'day-in-the-life' tours, Dar city tours, plus tra-
ditional dance, drumming, acrobatic, cooking and Swahili lessons. Monday
through Saturday afternoon from 5pm to 6pm is the best time to stop by for a
visit. With luck, you'll catch one of their free acrobatic and talent shows; call
ahead to confirm. To get here, take the ferry to Kigamboni, get a bajaji (tuk-tuk)
and ask them to take you to the centre (most drivers know it); it's opposite
Kigamboni police station next to Kakala bar.
The locally run Afriroots ( 0732-926350, 0787-459887;
www.afriroots.co.tz ) offers a range of bicycle and walking tours in and around
Dar es Salaam that are a fine way to get acquainted with local life.
