flow entering the aneurism. In the aneurismal region, the WSS remains bounded in
the posterior wall by 25 dyn/cm 2 , whereas in the anterior wall this value reduces
to 10 dyn/cm 2 . These two indices are recognized to play a role in aneurism growth
and rupture [15, 65] as well as in other pathologies [26, 32, 37, 42]. Here we point
out another aspect of heterogeneous models, i.e. that they provide a physiologically
realistic context to carry out 3D hemodynamics simulations.
9.5.2 Blood flow in a cerebral aneurism
In this application we employ the entire closed-loop representation of the CVS (see
Sect. 9.4.2). As in the previous case, the geometry was obtained using standard seg-
mentation procedures. In Fig. 9.11 we present the final geometry and its placement
within the arterial network. Notice the bleb present in the aneurism.
