Fig. 8.6. Visualisation of multi-modal multichannel physiological signals with GIMIAS integrated
and under the development framework where image analysis, image-based modelling and simula-
tion tools are pipelined. It is possible to navigate images synchronously with signals and vice versa.
The left picture shows an application in epilepsy with spatially synchronised EEG and SPECT data
while the right picture shows multiple ECG signals simultaneously visualized
Recently Taverna's workflow manager 14 has been partially integrated in GIMIAS.
This integration represents a first step towards the creation of visual workflows in dis-
tributed environments, given the ability of Taverna of running workflow steps on dif-
ferent remote machines and to graphically control the workflow execution (Fig. 8.8).
Taverna is an open source Workflow Management System written in Java. The
integration of Taverna in GIMIAS allows the user to discover GIMIAS data process-
ing services, create a workflow using a graphical designer, and execute the workflow
locally or remotely using the SSH protocol.
All GIMIAS command line plugins are automatically available in Taverna. When
a new command line plugin is added into GIMIAS, it will be automatically available
in Taverna Workbench thanks to the GIMIAS plugin provider. The user can also
configure a remote SSH plugin provider that will discover GIMIAS command line
plugins in a remote computer.
Fig. 8.7. Signals can be loaded or saved using several formats. The currently supported signal
formats are BrainVision, GDF and CSV, but with support for BioSignalML planned
