Right
on the waterfront, this budget B&B features a variety of rooms to suit travellers with wal-
lets of varying sizes. Just a short walk north of town along Neser St, it's one of the most
affordable B&Bs in Swakopmund, and is a much more personal place than some of the
larger backpacker joints.

This centrally located backpackers haunt is an excellent place to drop anchor in Swakop-
mund. The indoor lounge is simple and homey, while the outdoor picnic tables are a nice
spot for a cold beer and warm conversation. Free coffee is available all day, and you're
within stumbling distance of the pubs if you want something stronger.

Villa Wiese is a friendly and funky guest lodge occupying a
historic colonial mansion complete with vaulted ceilings, rock gardens and period fur-
niture. It draws a very eclectic mix of overlanders, backpackers and independent travel-
lers, and serves as a slightly more sophisticated alternative to other budget-oriented op-
tions in town. The nearby Dunedin Star is its overflow property, and has similar costs and
atmosphere.

Al-
though it's best known for the landmark institution that is Cafe Anton, the Schweizerhaus
Hotel itself is also a class act. Standard but comfortable rooms benefit from spectacular
views of the beach and the adjacent lighthouse, which lights up the sky when the heavy
fog rolls in from sea.
