this well-priced collection of lovely chalets flanks a simply gorgeous (and enormous)
thatched dining and bar area that overlooks a long flood plain where you can often see
wandering giraffes and elephants. The camp is to be commended for pioneering a plumb-
ing system that minimises environmental impact (it's also quite a feat of engineering - ask
to see how it all works).
Pom Pom Camp $$$

US$882/1512; ) This intimate camp was one of the original luxury retreats in the delta,
though frequent renovations have kept it up to speed with recent properties. Six linen tents
are skilfully placed around a scenic lagoon, which contributes to the tranquil and soothing
atmosphere. For this price, some of the tents could be a little larger.
