Eating
Self-caterers have a choice of several well-stocked supermarkets along Blue Jacket St. In
addition to the Lonely Planet-reviewed options, you'll also find some local food stalls at
the corner of Blue Jacket St and Selous Ave.
CAFE
Thorn Tree $
(St Patrick St, Village Mall; mains P35-60; 6am-3pm Mon-Sat; )
An oasis of soph-
istication at the northern end of Francistown, Thorn Tree (no relation to Lonely Planet's
famous online bulletin board) does burgers, salads, jacket potatoes, fresh fish and great
coffee; the outdoor terrace is lovely. Highly recommended.
Barbara's Bistro $$
(Francistown Sports Club; mains from P55; noon-2pm & 7-10pm Mon-Sat)
Located in
the eastern outskirts of town, this quaint, leafy spot is a good choice for a casual atmo-
sphere and good international-style food.
INTERNATIONAL
Savanna $$
(St Patrick St, 1st fl, Village Mall; mains P55-110; 10am-10pm Mon-Sat; )
Prob-
ably the pick of Francistown's sit-down restaurants, this place serves up the town's best
steaks, but watch out also for the daily specials. The bar is also one of few expat haunts in
town.
INTERNATIONAL
Pie City $
(Blue Jacket St, Blue Jacket Mall; pies P8.75; 7am-7pm)
For a quick bite, it's difficult
to go past the flaky pastries on these pies; the chilli sausage roll is heavenly.
BAKERY
STEAKHOUSE
Spur Steak Ranch $$
(Blue Jacket St; mains P60-120; noon-10pm Mon-Sat; )
You've seen it before - an
American-themed steakhouse in the heart of Africa with a menu that covers steaks and
seafood. It's the sort of place your kids will love but you might cringe at.
