With most foreign visitors heading straight for the north and bypassing the capital in the
process, Gaborone primarily caters to domestic and business travellers. Even so, the city
has a good range of accommodation to suit most budgets.
If you don't have a private car, it's recommended that you book your first night's ac-
commodation before you arrive, as many places will provide an airport transfer. With ho-
tels dotted all over the capital, hiring a taxi to find a hotel with an available room is an ex-
pensive headache.
HOTEL
Metcourt Inn $$
( 363 7907; www.peermont.com ; r from P720; ) Located within the Grand Palm
Resort complex and part of the reliable Peermont suite of hotels, this affordable business
hotel has classy rooms with a hint of Afro-chic in the decor. If this is your first stop in
Africa, you'll wonder what all the fuss is about. But if you've been out in the bush, it's
heaven on a midrange budget. Take Molepololole Rd from Nelson Mandela Dr then it's
around 6km further on the left.

with a real backpacker vibe around Gaborone. It has attractive chalets, and good camp-
sites and dorms. It's an excellent alternative to staying in the city centre, and handy for the
Mokolodi Nature Reserve, 1km away.
