Line
Line is often used to attract and direct visual attention and create focus. The orientation and
style of line can influence the overall character and ambience of visual imagery plus support
communication objectives in terms of narrative and character development.
Variations of line include straight, linear, organic and freeform line; thick, thin line; col-
oured, achromatic, opaque or transparent line. In the film posters for
The Human Factor
(1979) and
The Awakening
(2012), line indicates a sense of suspense, drama and mystery
while also directing attention to key areas of text.
