In-Depth Information
colour can act as a kind of visual code, quickly and effectively conveying information in
visual communications design
In the film poster for Brave (2012), the use of orange against a blue background conveys
a sense of the courageous nature of the main character, with the strong contrast providing
an indication of the film's narrative. Similarly, the film poster for Trance (2013) features a
plethora of contrasting colours jumbled across the main character's portrait, indicating the
psychological-thriller nature of the film.

Similarly, the unusual and somewhat unsettling combination of purple and green gives an
insight into the main character as well as the narrative and likely themes of the psycholo-
gical thriller We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011).
