Organisation of the surveying function
The managing surveyor works closely with the procurement team led by the sen-
ior design manager/ procurement manager.
Responsibilities of the managing surveyor include:
Liaison with the senior project manager responsible for the project.
Liaison with the procurement manager's with regards to the placing of work pack-
ages and domestic subcontracts.
Organising the surveying team under his control.
Direct responsibility for the monthly cost/ value report - this includes forecasting
cost and value to project completion.
Liaison with the clients quantity surveyors regarding the monthly valuations and
variations to the contract.
Establishing data on contract claims and extensions of time.
Reporting to both the senior project manager and commercial surveying director
on the contract surveying situation.
Control and payment of monthly valuations for all work packages and domestic
subcontractors.
Settlement of final accounts with all subcontractors as the contract progresses.
Good relationships between the main contractor, the work package subcontractors
and domestic subcontractors is essential throughout the contract. Disputes between
parties should not be allowed to disrupt the progress of work on site.
