CHAPTER 8
APPLICATION EQUIPMENT
The application process is getting the pesticide to the target crop. This
process usually involves a carrier, liquid, solid, or gas, which transports the
pesticide to the intended surface or target. The application may be the simple
act of spraying an aerosol repellent on our skin or applying a fumigant with a
high-pressure applicator.
The pesticide application equipment used is important to the success of
your pest control job. You must first select the right kind of application
equipment, then you must use it correctly and take good care of it. Here are
some things you should know about choosing, using, and caring for equip-
ment.
I.
SPRAYERS
Sprayers are the most common pesticide application equipment. They are
standard equipment for nearly every professional pesticide applicator and are
used in every type of pest control operation. Sprayers range in size and com-
plexity from simple, hand-held models to intricate machines weighing several
tons.
A.
HAND SPRAYERS
Hand sprayers are often used to apply small quantities of pesticides. They
can be used both in structures and outside for spot treatments and hard-to-reach
areas Most operate on compressed air, which is supplied by a manually oper-
ated pump. These sprayers are usually used in the structural pest control indus-
try and are common in home gardens.
Advantages:
economical
simple to operate
easy to clean and store.
