Regions at a Glance
Coast and countryside, cities and villages, bluffs and bays - the sheer variety of
Devon and Cornwall's landscapes is one of the region's major draws. Every
corner has its own unique selling point, from surfing on the north Cornish coast
to savouring fine wines in South Devon. The main problem you'll have is decid-
ing which area to explore first.
The region's compact dimensions mean that it's easy to explore, too, regardless
of whether you choose to do it by road or rail, biking or hiking. Make sure you
leave time for the journey, though - getting from A to B is all part of the experi-
ence, and you're guaranteed to discover some unexpected gems along the way.
Exeter & East Devon
Exeter Cathedral
Centring on its huge Gothic cathedral, the elegant city of Exeter has a history stretching
back to Roman times. Don't miss the beautiful cathedral close and the city's spooky under-
ground passages.
Jurassic Coast
The rust-red cliffs of east Devon form part of the Jurassic Coast, an ancient landscape
known for its fragile cliffs and fossil-hunting possibilities.
