In-Depth Information
Boat
Isles of Scilly Travel ( 0845-710 5555; www.islesofscilly-travel.co.uk ) operates the archipelago's emblematic pas-
senger ferry (the Scillonian III) between Penzance and the main island, St Mary's (adult/child return £76/40, 2 hours 40
minutes). The service is seasonal - it doesn't run in the winter. Between late April and early October there are between
two and six sailings a week (Monday to Saturday only).
Once in the Isles of Scilly, a fleet of ferries shuttles between St Mary's and the smaller islands that surround it. Ser-
vices are operated by the St Mary's Boatmen's Association ( 01720-423999; www.scillyboating.co.uk ) and run at
least daily between April and October, leaving St Mary's in the morning and returning in the afternoon. Adult/child re-
turns cost £8.40/4.20.
The passenger vessel, MS Oldenburg ( 01271-863636; www.lundyisland.co.uk ) sails to Lundy Island from either
Bideford or Ilfracombe, once a day between April and late-October. The journey time is under two hours for both cross-
ings. Fares are the same from either port: adult/child day return £35/18; period return (ie: anything longer than a day re-
turn) £62/31.
