Sidmouth Folk Week
Held in the first week of August since 1955, this week-long festival continues to attract top
names from the folk world.
Dartington International Summer School
A month-long classical music festival staged in the stately surrounds of Dartington Hall
near Totnes. There are concerts and recitals galore, plus music lessons if you fancy having
a go.
Rip Curl Boardmasters
The largest surf, skate and music festival in Europe. Surfing and extreme sports take place
on Newquay's Fistral Beach, while bands play on the bluffs above Mawgan Porth.
Newlyn Fish Festival
Newlyn's fish market and harbour overflows with food stalls during this seafood extravag-
anza, and there's plenty of opportunities to sample the wares.
British Fireworks Championships
Plymouth's skies are filled with bursts of colour for this two-night fireworks contest in
mid-August. It's spectacular, loud and best of all, completely free.
