St Martin's Vineyard
( 01720-423418; www.stmartinsvineyard.co.uk ) Rather improbably, the island is also home to Bri-
tain's most southwesterly (and certainly the smallest) winemaker. Tours of the vineyard,
which began as a holiday hobby for owners Val and Graham Thomas, are offered from
11am to 4pm on weekdays throughout the summer.

Beaches
The island's isolated beaches feel fantastically wild. Par Beach is right next to the main
quay, while on the island's southern shore is Lawrence's Bay , which reveals a broad sweep of
sandy flats at low tide. Along the island's northern side are Great Bay and Little Bay , arguably
the finest beaches in Scilly; from the western end, you can cross to White Island at low
tide.
Along the cliffs from Great Bay is the island's famous red-and-white striped Day Mark , a
navigation aid dating back to 1683. Nearby is the ultra-secluded cove of Perpitch .
